Skinning the animals alive is sickening and not acceptable by anyone. This is just one of the multitude of processes that happen abroad where we buy most of our goods from, welcome to Oz. How did the Chinese explain their actions? Are they not allowed to posses implements that would humanely dispatch the animals? Is there no oversight by our trading partner? Did the group take immediate action to raise money and give them captive bolt guns to stun the animals and not damage the fur? Are they doing that now, or just raising money to jet staff to Washington and pay lobbyists? “One of the most gruesome industries on the planet” Not true, fur is a renewable and sustainable resource, the methods used by our trading partners need to be improved. What is your preferred alternative for insulation? Organic wool? Petroleum based synthetic products, that reek their own havoc on animals?

And I thought animal rights organizations didn’t espouse terrorism. Isn’t that what you said Pat yet Mr. Weir changed his costume to avoid threats from AR groups. Wonder how they got that reputation?
I’m very happy he stood up to the harassment and his focus on human suffering.
As an aside I just read about a senior citizen who performed surgery i.e removed a cyst from his dog because he couldn’t afford a vet. A local vet said it was a “heinous crime” and that he would’ve subsidized the surgery. Question: How is this guy barely getting by going to know that. I’ll bet that veterinarian donated to Haiti instead of a community outreach to help local seniors. Not saying he shouldn’t have donated to Haiti but he should keep his mouth shut until he learns to take care of his own community first.
When I worked with DEC and we had pheasants that needed to be put down due to injury etc.. the most human way to kill them was to take them by the legs and slam their head against a post similar to the fur trade. If you choose to engage in fur handling the quickest and most humane way to put an animal down is a severe head injury – like it or not.
